Vertical Farming

Half an hour ago i turned on the radio while having a bowl of cereals. I heard a scientific report on a pill which is supposed to reduce the amount of methane released by cattle. Since i wanted to know more, i looked up the station's website, but instead of finding what i was looking for, i discovered another article entitled 'organic farming in skyscrapers'. It describes the idea of one Dickson Despommier to create vertical farms and thus meet the nutritional demands of a growing world population while at the same time drastically reducing the use of land and other resources. Although i'm usually sceptical of purely technical solutions, after reading Despommier's description of his project i became very excited and moved, and i think it's definitely worth while visiting his well-designed site (http://verticalfarm.com). Voltaire was right: We need to tend our garden!
